oneword at the 2022 tcworld conference
After being forced to take two years off, what will the first in-person industry event be like? Can it take place, are there restrictions, will there be many visitors? When we decided, half way through the year, to participate in the first tcworld conference after the coronavirus break, we could not be sure whether it would be worthwhile. But we had high hopes, and the risk was worth it to us.
So we started planning the trade fair with great enthusiasm: with a new booth location, a new and larger trade fair booth, a new trade fair film and new give-aways.
“A lot has changed since coronavirus and what we had learnt from previous years no longer rang true. We were unsure, given the time of year, whether enough participants would sign up at all, but we are very happy that we made the right decision: the response was simply overwhelming.”
Sara Cantaro, Head of Marketing, oneword GmbH
Warm-up for the annual conference: the Technology Days
Just one week before the in-person event, Technology Days continued a format that had become well established through the online conferences of the last two years. So we were happy to get involved and give a presentation there as well: with the title “Machine translation and terminology – a difficult relationship or a great love affair?”, Jasmin Nesbigall, Head of MTPE and Terminology Management at oneword, shed light on the interaction between MT and terminology and showed how the two can become a dream team. The presentation can be found on our YouTube channel (only available in German).
“Giving a specialist presentation at the Technology Days is a great way to showcase yourself as an exhibitor to an audience that may not attend the conference in person for time or cost reasons.”
Jasmin Nesbigall, Head of MTPE and Terminology Management, oneword GmbH
Demonstrating our expertise to an audience: our successful specialist presentations
Our specialist presentations this year were also cause for celebration: all three submissions were accepted by the conference advisory board, the rooms were full each time and the feedback was extremely positive. Demonstrating our expertise to an audience full of experts is always particularly valuable. This year we gave presentations on the following topics:
- MT on the wrong track – sources of error in machine translation in a corporate context (Jasmin Nesbigall, Head of MTPE and Terminology Management)
- Checking translation quality: practical, efficient and flexible (Nicole Sixdorf, Head of Translation Partner Management)
- An international approach to genders – The right guidelines for successful translations (Vanessa Köbke López, Project Manager for International Translation Projects)
Trade fair booth and meeting people in person: the 2022 conference
On 8 November, the ICS International Congress Centre Stuttgart finally opened its doors to around 3400 expectant conference participants and trade fair visitors. The atmosphere was great right from the outset and the joy to be meeting again in person after such a long time was palpable everywhere. Of course, we too were very happy, especially given the large number of visitors and the interesting and stimulating conversations we held on our booth with existing and potential customers.
We ran a quiz based on exciting facts about oneword and the industry: the prize was a Bluetooth box from Marshall. The lucky winner Carsten Probst has since received his prize by post and has hopefully already been able to enjoy this high-quality product.
“This year’s tcworld conference exceeded all our expectations! We would like to thank existing and potential customers for the great discussions with enjoyed on our booth and we are already looking forward to seeing you again next year in Stuttgart”
Andrea Modersohn, Managing Partner, oneword GmbH
Did you miss our live presentations this year but have a tcworld conference ticket? Then you can still view the recordings for three months. Otherwise you can of course download the slides for some time (only available in German).
